HUMAN BODY-PARTS FOR SALE IN SOMALIA

It is a truth universally accepted that a person who is in possession of a good wealth and living in one of the developed countries must be in want of a long life, and organ failure is an obstacle to that dearly held dream of living a healthy life to reach that long life span.

Most organ recipients are from rich or well to do families and are in possession of the required resources to pay for the astronomical price of the organ transplant operations, however with or with out money there is a long waiting list of patients who are in need of an organ transplant and, hence, it takes three to four years to receive the right organ provided a match is found within that range. This high demand has created new un-ethical black market in which human body parts are solicited and sold, often with the help of shady hospital staff.

In places like India which is the human Organ bazaar of the world, the donors do not have a choice in their determination to escape from chronic poverty and are forced to sale one of their kidney so as to provide for their families. Depending on the situation a recipient can receive a good price for his donation if he is under no pressure to do so, however if the need is urgent the donor can be tricked to donate his organs with very little money.

China is another source of illegal organ transplant; the Chinese prisoners who are executed have their organs removed upon death. According to Human right Asia, about 2,000 – 3000 organs a year are cut from the bodies of executed prisoners.

It has been reported recently in Addis-Ababa that a Somali woman; Ms. Kaltun Sheikh Abdi from Puntland Somalia was married to A Somali man from Holland six months ago, arrangements were made by intermediaries between the man and his would be wife’s family, and money were paid to her parents. The innocent girl was later brought to Addis-Ababa where she met the said Husband and the lady was immediately flown to schiphol Airport in Holland, the husband proposed that she should under go medical check up as it’s required to receive residency visa, kaltun was later taken to a hospital in which the husband accompanied her and acted as translator, shortly after, he left the wife and that was his last time to be seen.

From their Kaltun was injected with anesthesia and lost consciousness, in which period she was operation on and the illegal surgeon remove her uterus, ovaries and fallopian tube, she also lost her two kidneys in which they were replaced with the kidneys of a ninety year old woman. After several days Kaltun was discovered by a Somali Nurse who works in that hospital and in turn alerted the Somali Diaspora in that country, investigation was done but the people who committed the act could not be found. The Somali community in the said country paid for her return ticket back to Addis-Ababa and within a couple of days Kaltun died from complication of organ transplant surgery, after she was bed and wheelchair bound for two months.

There are also cases in Western Europe in which Somali women who visited gaenocologits for routine medical check-up were recommended for an urgent surgery in which time the ovaries were stolen from this innocent women, many are un-aware of it until they try to conceive a baby.

Further evidence of the increasing trade in human body parts in Somalia is evidenced by the high rate of stolen children being reported across Puntalnd and Somali-land and young babies found dead in Hergeisa with their organs removed. In late February the Somali news networks like; VOA Somali Service and BBC Somali service have been reporting; a child stolen from a family in Puntland was found with a Russian man staying in Somali-Land with intention to transport the young child to Eastern Europe, his intention is clear…….. For any person with common sense.

In 1992 after the collapse of the central government in Somalia, 900 children under the age of ten were stolen from Mogadishu mostly the street children with no families to miss them and were shipped to Europe from the docks of the capital, no one has heard where they were taken to or what happened to them, but it’s acknowledged by all who know this truth and incident that the children were trafficked to provide human body parts and in the process killed and disposed off.

30 of the above 900 kids were found and rescued in Turin Italy, in November 1992, they were found cramped in the under belly of an Italian flagged ship in a serious health condition. Many other acts like this is believed to have gone on for many years and in the absence of strong Central government such act will continue to thrive in Somalia.

The medical art of transplant surgery has become very popular; such dubious trade stems from our innate desire for longevity, more surprisingly the biggest participants in the trade are unscrupulous western pharmaceutical companies seeking to profit from marketing their products that have been derived from the procurement of human body parts.

The problem raises complex ethical questions as to how far is enough in human’s effort to strive towards longevity?

Who Has The Highest Longevity?

The element that links the stages of life, from birth to maturation and to death, is aging. It is the organic process of growing older and showing the effects of increasing age. Life span refers to the duration of time that an organism continuous to live.

To experience the highest longevity possible, there are a variety of steps and advices that you should bear in mind. These steps and advices are focused mainly on spiritual, mental, physical, emotional and biological aspects of a human being.

The spiritual and mental aspect of the being goes hand in hand since being one with the mind is being one with the spirit. This refers to establishing a religious or belief about anything that can make you understand more the world and the struggles encompassing it. It refers to an enrichment in the knowledge about things; how to explain the occurrence of another over the other or may be the different ways of having to deal with these kind of burden.

It lets you be spared from further interrogation of people envious of what you have gained which in turn cal also be a coping strategy. It lets you see the world positively.

An important step for longevity is keeping the body moving and having the muscles in tone. It allows you to improve the parts of the body that is occasionally used and enhance those that are needed in your day-to-day work.

A high intake of calcium and exposure to sunlight (vitamin D) can be of benefit to your bone health. In addition, not smoking and moderate intake of alcohol can as well increase your heart’s health and resistance to chronic diseases.

To achieve a century of living, an individual’s personality is also considered. An individual should have a good judgment on life and is firm and consistent to your judgments. Developing strategies for coping up is also one way to lengthen life since it lessens your burden like dealing on stress.

You should establish a deep meaning and goal towards what you wanted to achieve. These in turn lessens the risk for dementia.

Biologically, the highest longevity can be achieved through inheritance since the genetic makeup of a family having a longer life expectancy can be passed on to their next generation.

By being knowledgeable of your family history, you can try to outlive those who have the highest longevity in your family by engaging on diets like restricted calorie diet. A restricted intake of calorie helps you slow the changes, related to age, that can result to chronic illnesses.

It helps you experience weight loss (far from starvation) to prevent your body from obesity which puts stress to your bones and joints and can add up to the strain on your heart.

Since the daily intake of calorie is reduces, the levels of free radicals existing in your blood is also reduced which in turn lessens the risk for cancer and other chronic diseases and increases cardiovascular health.

Go green and you could also lower your risk of cancer.

The Longevity Diet?

Copyright (c) 2007 Ainsley Laing

Have you heard of the Longevity Diet or Calorie Restriction Diet? It’s been in and out of nutrition news for many years, the theory and related research starting in the 1930s. The concept is that by eating less total calories and ensuring that the calories we do eat are highly nutritious, we can extend our life span. So what’s the science behind this? No one knows exactly, but the research is growing, and so are the numbers of people trying it out.

In the 1930s, researchers studying growth patterns and food deprivation in mice noticed that adult mice that were underfed lived much longer than their well fed counterparts. Since then, there have been studies done on different animals, including primates, with basically the same results: those animals that were fed much fewer “high quality” calories lived longer and had better overall health.

Do you remember Biosphere 2? It was the project where they built a sealed, self-contained facility in Arizona and people lived there for 2 years. Well, the food production part of the experiment didn’t go so well yet the participants stayed anyway. It was observed that although they became very thin, their health profiles (particularly the biomarkers of aging: cholesterol, blood sugar and c-reactive protein/inflammation) improved considerably.

This led to the formation of the Calorie Restriction Society by one of the Biosphere 2 members, Dr. Roy Walford. The society aims to raise money for research as well as to educate people on the benefits and risks of Calorie Restriction as a lifestyle. They have renamed the concept: Calorie Restriction with Optimal Nutrition. This is an important distinction, because if one restricts their calories from between 10 to 30%, it is imperative that what is eaten is high quality in terms of nutrition. No junk food allowed!

What have researchers found are the benefits of Calorie Restriction with Optimal Nutrition? Well, in humans it’s not an easy research study to design because we live so long and there aren’t many people willing to go to such extremes. But there have been some interesting findings.

This year, a research group studied 25 members of the Calorie Restriction Society (aged 41-65) who had been following the lifestyle eating 1400 to 2000 calories per day for an average of 6 years, along with another 25 people who had been eating “normal” American diet of 2,000 to 3,000 calories per day. They measured the diastolic function of all of them. This is a biomarker of age in hearts. The calorie restrictor’s diastolic readings were of people 15 years younger.

One research group has been able to prove that calorie restriction in mice slows down death rates, particularly of cancer and kidney failure. Well fed, sedentary lab rats commonly die of these afflictions. They demonstrated that calorie restriction slows down the growth speed of breast, skin and white blood cells… which means a slower tumor growth rate.

One researcher is studying the implications of the fact that calorie restriction lowers the levels of insulin and insulin growth factor ?another cancer trigger. This also can’t be bad in the fight for diabetes prevention and control!

And yet another research group is studying the idea that slowing down the amount of energy given to the mitochondria of our cells gives us fewer free radicals (cellular respiration generates free radicals). Hmm… many of us are taking anti-oxidant vitamins to combat free radical damage ? maybe we just need to eat less.

Although the concept really hasn’t been studied enough to lend concrete answers, it deserves the attention of those of us who are looking to live longer and more productive lives. Many of the principles put forth by this lifestyle, such as to eat more nutrient dense foods (veggies, fruits, lean dairy, fish, lean meats and whole grains) and eat fewer empty calories (sugar, white flour, white rice and other processed foods), couldn’t be bad for anyone!

It’s pretty obvious that being overweight is a risk factor for a shortened lifespan, so why wouldn’t being mildly underweight lengthen lifespan? It’s an idea well worth consideration.

Welcome to Live Longer News.  Recent increases in the rates of lifestyle diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease, has been responsible for slowing down the longevity which the industrialized world had enjoyed through much of the 20th century.

Since 1840, record life expectancy has risen linearly for men and women, albeit more slowly for men. For women the increase has been almost three months per year. In light of steady increase, without any sign of limitation, the suggestion that life expectancy will top out must be treated with caution.

Brief Interruption.

Right now we are into medicinal longevity, where diet and exercise and supplementations (medicine) provide us with healthy biologies until we can have access to more radical technologies, such as nanotechnology.

Some argue that molecular nanotechnology will greatly extend human life spans. If the rate of increase of life span can be raised with these technologies to a level of twelve months increase per year, this is defined as effective biological immortality and is the goal of radical life extension.
